Dr. John Bogard

Dr. John Bogard is a Board Certified Ophthalmologist and an experienced laser eye surgeon committed to excellent visual outcomes and providing a safe and pleasant experience for each patient. Dr. Bogard took a unique path in medicine. He attended Purdue University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering while completing all of his pre-medical requirements. After four years working in the computer industry in the Santa Clara “Silicon Valley” accumulating a wealth of analytical skills, he decided to switch careers and attend the F. Edward Hébert Health Sciences School of Medicine in Bethesda, Maryland. There he participated in research that captivated his interest in ophthalmology.
Dr. Bogard then served as a medical officer with the United States Marine Corps, followed by service as a naval flight surgeon. He completed his residency at the Naval Medical Center San Diego, the birthplace of refractive surgery, in the department of defense. He was mentored and trained directly by the world-renowned originator of the program. Dr. Bogard has served as Department Head of the Ophthalmology and Refractive Surgery Clinic at the Naval Hospital Bremerton and most recently at the Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton, where he had the privilege of providing affiliate refractive surgery training for cornea fellows from the University of Southern California Roski Eye Institute.
Dr. Bogard is married with three sons, one daughter, and four grandchildren. He maintains a healthy lifestyle and enjoys seasonal outdoor activities and yard work. He is active in his community and volunteers in local military veteran activities.
