Dr. David G. O’Day is a highly trained and experienced corneal, cataract and refractive surgeon, with expertise in the most advanced techniques of corneal, cataract and vision correction surgeries. A native of Atlanta, Georgia, he has traveled far to receive a well-rounded education and the highest quality professional training obtainable.

He has applied this training since 1993 in both academic and private ophthalmologic practice settings, with his sub-specialty focus on corneal, modern refractive cataract and laser refractive surgeries. Dr. O’Day has successfully performed over 100,000 successful LASIK procedures during his career, making him one of the most experienced and sought-after LASIK surgeons in the country. He has proven that it is his reputation, patient care, experience and training credentials that sets him apart from the field.

EDUCATION | TRAINING

Dr. O’Day completed his undergraduate studies at Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana, graduating cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry. He moved on to Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. for graduate and professional studies, first completing a Master of Science in Physiology and then a Doctorate in Medicine. After serving a four-year stint in the U.S. Navy as a general medical doctor, he was admitted to one of the top 10 Eye Residency Programs in the country, completing a three-year program at Emory University Eye Center in 1992. He then took on dual Fellowships in Cornea and External Eye Diseases and Refractive Surgery in Minnesota at the University of Minnesota and the Phillips Eye Institute. After a three-year stint on the full-time Ophthalmology faculty at Case Western Reserve University, Dr. O’Day moved to Charleston, SC in 1996, where he has been in his private practice ever since.

Dr. O’Day’s professional involvements include: the Eye Bank Association of America Medical Advisory Board, the South Carolina Lions Eye Bank, the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, the International Society of Refractive Surgery, the Midwest Cornea Society, the Association of Research in Vision and Ophthalmology, the Charleston Ophthalmological Society, the South Carolina Medical Association and the South Carolina Society of Ophthalmology.
